Most people eat more salt than they realize.

  • Most of the salt in our diet comes from processed foods and restaurants.
  • Compare nutrition labels and choose foods with the lower amount of sodium (per serving). Aim for foods with 5% or less Daily Value (DV) for sodium.
  • Cook at home more often and include more fresh, whole foods.
  • Rinse and drain canned foods to cut back on sodium.
  • A ramen seasoning packet often contains more sodium than a person should eat in one day. Use half of the seasoning packet.
