Description

Many types of noodles are commonly used in Asian cuisine. Soba noodles are made from buckwheat and are usually served cold with a dipping sauce or warm in a brothy soup. Udon noodles are thick, wheat flour noodles and are usually served in a soup. Rice noodles are very thin noodles that are made from rice, flour, and water.

Buy It

  • Aim for noodles that are whole wheat.
  • Cup of Noodles may be cheap, but they're also low in nutrients.

Store It

  • Store noodles in a cool, dry, dark place, like your pantry.
  • Leftover cooked noodles can be stored in the fridge for later use.

Cook It

  • Soba noodles have a nutty flavor but have a light texture. Native to Japan, they are traditionally served chilled with a dipping sauce or in a brothy soup.
  • Udon noodles are thick wheat noodles and have a neutral flavor so they do well in dishes with strong flavors.
  • Rice noodles cook just as fast as ramen and can be used as a substitute.
  • To feel more full and to add nutritional value to Cup of Noodles, add steamed or sautéed vegetables to the broth. To reduce sodium, only use half of the package of flavoring rather than the entire package.

Why It's Great

  • B Vitamins helps our cells grow and stay healthy.
  • Fiber helps with healthy digestion and keeps us feeling full.  Eating enough fiber has been shown to keep our hearts healthy too.
