Whole-grain flour lends a nutty flavor and lovely color to the bread.
What You'll Need
- Measuring spoons
- Measuring cups
- large mixing bowl
- Rolling pin
- Large skillet
In a mixing bowl, combine flours, baking powder, sugar and milk. Stir until the dough comes together.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes. (Or wrap well and refrigerate overnight.)
Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a circle or an oval, using a little extra flour to keep the dough from sticking. Prick through dough several times with a fork.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium. Cook bread until golden brown, about 3 minutes each side.
Resting the dough after kneading will allow you to roll out the rounds more easily. Pricking them with a fork or small knife helps keep them flat while cooking.
You can also cook the bread over a grill or in an oven. Mix 1 tablespoon oil into the dough. To bake, arrange rounds on a baking sheet and cook for 15 minutes at 425°F. To grill, cook to 3 to 5 minutes on each side over medium coals.
