Description

Passion fruit is native to South America. It is widely grown in warm regions. It has a thick, tough purple or yellow skin. Inside are hundreds of tart, edible seeds with an intense, fruity flavor and smell.

Buy It

Ripe passion fruits have wrinkled skin. Purple passion fruits may have brown spots.

Store It

If skin is smooth, ripen at room temperature. Ripe fruits can be refrigerated in a plastic bag for up to 7 days.

Cook It

Passion fruit pulp and seeds can be scooped out and eaten raw. Insides of ripe fruits can also be added to muffins, tarts, or yogurt.

Fat free, cholesterol free, very low sodium, low in calories, good source of vitamin C and fiber.
