Description

Melons are usually round or oblong, are juicy, and taste sweet. The outer rinds are typically green, brown, or yellow. The inner flesh has a large variety of colors including pink, yellow, orange, and green.

Store It

  • Ripe melons can be stored on the counter for 3-5 days or in the fridge for 1 week.
  • Cut melons should be wrapped tightly in plastic and stored in the fridge for no more than 4 days.

Cook It

  • Wash melons before cutting as they can have harmful bacteria on the surface.
  • Using a sharp chef knife, cut the melon in half on a cutting board. With the cut (flat) side down, cut it in half again. You can then slice the melon into triangular wedges for easy eating, or you can cut the melon flesh into bite-sized pieces.

Why It's Great

  • Vitamin A keeps our eyes working, our immune system strong, and our cells growing.
  • Vitamin C keeps our immune system strong and helps our bodies heal quickly.
  • Fiber helps with healthy digestion and keeps us feeling full.  Eating enough fiber has been shown to keep our hearts healthy too.
